Shopify Dunning App for Failed Subscription Payments
Your subscription app bills. Shopify charges. Swipe Again recovers what fails.
On Shopify, a failed subscription payment passes through three layers — your subscription app, Shopify's billing attempts, and your customer's bank — and each layer gives up a little earlier than it should. Swipe Again is the dunning layer across all of it: decline-code-aware retries, branded email/SMS/voice follow-up, and secure card updates, starting with the last 90 days of failures you already have.
Shopify doesn't bill your subscriptions. Your app does — sort of.
Shopify itself doesn't run your subscription business. A subscription app (Recharge, Skio, Seal, Loop, or Shopify's own Subscriptions app) manages the contracts, and Shopify's platform executes the billing attempts against the customer's stored payment method. When an attempt fails, what happens next depends on settings scattered across that stack: how many retry attempts, how many days apart, and whether the subscription skips, pauses, or cancels when attempts run out.
Those settings are a safety net, not a recovery system. They don't read why the payment failed. An expired card and an empty account get the same retry calendar; the customer gets a generic notification, if anything; and when the attempts run out, a subscriber who never meant to leave is simply gone — usually without anyone on your team ever seeing it happen.
What a dedicated Shopify dunning app adds.
Retries that read the failure. Every failed billing attempt arrives with a reason. Swipe Again routes by cause: insufficient funds gets retries timed to pay cycles; expired and replaced cards skip retries entirely and go straight to a secure card-update request; hard declines are never hammered. Up to six attempts over roughly sixteen days, each one earning its place.
Follow-up in your store's voice. Branded emails you control day by day, SMS on day 1 and day 7, voice calls for high-value subscribers — all carrying your store's name and colors, each with one secure link to update a card. Subscribers never see a third party's name.
The cancel button, covered too. Shopify subscribers who click cancel meet a reason-matched save offer — a discount, a pause, a fix from a human — and accepted offers execute on the subscription automatically. Failed payments and deliberate cancels are the two halves of one leak; one app should watch both.
One dashboard across platforms. Swipe Again covers Recharge, Seal, Skio, and Loop on Shopify — plus Stripe, Chargebee, Recurly, Paddle, and Braintree beyond it — with every recovered dollar attributed to the attempt that won it. Running Recharge specifically? Our Recharge dunning guide walks that exact setup.
Connected in minutes, worked from your backlog.
01 — Start the trial and pick your platform. Connect the subscription platform your store actually bills through. No code, no developer, no theme edits.
02 — Your backlog flows in. The last 90 days of failed payments are pulled in automatically and put through the same recovery sequences as new failures.
03 — One coordinated schedule. Your platform's built-in retries can stay on. Swipe Again coordinates with them — timing retries around the decline code, with email/SMS/voice outreach and card-update flows, never double-retrying a card — and reports every recovery in one dashboard. Recovery runs and counts either way.
One flat price, every platform included.
Swipe Again is $179/month flat ($1,799/year) — Shopify dunning, cancel deflection, all nine platforms, no percentage of recovered revenue and no per-app add-ons. Full detail on the pricing page.
The guarantee: Recover $179 in 30 days, guaranteed — or Swipe Again is free the next 30 days. Recovered revenue means every failed payment collected while Swipe Again is active, from any recovery source, as defined in Section 3 of our Terms. How we count: how Swipe Again counts recovered revenue

Questions, answered.
Does Shopify have built-in dunning?
Basic retry settings, yes — Shopify's Subscriptions settings let you set the number of billing reattempts, the interval between them, and what happens when they run out (skip, pause, or cancel). What it doesn't do is read the decline reason, run branded multi-channel follow-up, or cover the cancel button. Third-party subscription apps like Recharge have their own native dunning on top of that, of varying depth.
Which Shopify subscription apps does Swipe Again work with?
Recharge, Seal, Skio, and Loop — plus Stripe, Chargebee, Recurly, Paddle, and Braintree if part of your business bills elsewhere. All nine are on the integrations page. Billing through WooCommerce instead of a Shopify subscription app? The WooCommerce integration guide covers that connection step by step.
What happens to failures from before I connected?
They're pulled in automatically — the last 90 days of failed payments get worked through the same retry and dunning sequences as new failures.
