SMS Payment Reminders
Text-message payment reminders from Swipe Again
Swipe Again is failed-payment recovery software used by subscription businesses ("merchants"). When a payment for your subscription fails, the merchant you subscribe to may use Swipe Again to send you a short text-message reminder with a secure link where you can update your payment method.
How you come to receive these messages
You receive a reminder only when all of the following are true:
- You have an active subscription with a merchant that uses Swipe Again.
- A payment for that subscription has failed.
- The number we text is the mobile number on your subscription account — the number you provided to the merchant when you subscribed, held in the merchant's billing platform (such as Stripe or Recharge).
Merchants that use Swipe Again agree, under Section 4 of our Terms of Service, that they hold the consents and legal basis required to contact their customers on each channel, including by text message under the TCPA and carrier rules, and including honoring opt-outs.
What the messages look like
Every message is about your own failed payment, names the subscription it concerns, and includes opt-out instructions. A typical message reads:
"Your payment for your subscription didn't go through. Update your card here to keep your subscription active: [secure link] Reply STOP to opt out"
Frequency
Typically up to three reminders about a single failed payment. Message and data rates may apply.
Opting out
Reply STOP at any time to stop receiving these messages. Reply HELP for help. Opt-outs are recorded and checked before any further message is sent.

1. Merchant signup — the opt-in step. At app.swipeagain.com/signup, creating an account requires two affirmative checkboxes, both unchecked by default: agreement to the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, and the text-reminder attestation: "Text reminders: my customers agreed when they subscribed to receive payment messages from my business. Swipe Again may text them about a failed payment on my behalf — up to 3 texts per failed payment, every text with 'Reply STOP to opt out' — as described in the Privacy Policy." The attestation is recorded with a timestamp in our systems when the account is created.

2. Privacy Policy — the "Text (SMS) messages" section. It discloses the program to the merchant's customers: the merchant asks us to send the reminders, the number comes from the customer's subscription account with the merchant's billing platform, typically up to three messages per failed payment, STOP to opt out / HELP for help, and no mobile information shared with third parties for marketing or promotional purposes.

3. Terms of Service — Section 4, "Your responsibilities." The merchant represents it has the consents and legal basis required to contact its customers on each channel, including compliance with the TCPA and messaging-carrier rules for text messages and calls, and honoring opt-outs.
